MCL - Message from the National COO | Member Portal Access & FAQ | Passing of William ‘Brooks’ Corley Jr. LtCol/USMC (Ret)

  • A Message from National COO Bob Borka
  • Access to the Member Portal
  • Member Portal FAQ
  • Passing of passing of William ‘Brooks’ Corley Jr. LtCol/USMC (Ret).
A Message from National COO Bob Borka

Please forward to Detachments

In follow-up to the National Commandant’s message, I would like to discuss the “Where is your Roster” line item.

The December 31st roster was scheduled to come out on 1/15. This roster will be generated from the new database for the first time. Prior to generating it, we noticed a glitch. A work ticket was submitted to the database company for them to correct the way the report is being generated (having to do with membership being expired or not). Sending the roster with this glitch would be worse than waiting to have the glitch addressed. Rosters will come out as soon as possible. In the meantime, Department Paymasters and Department Commandants can run the same roster report that headquarters does. Note: It will have the same error until addressed by the database company.

We are hoping the database company will fix the glitch this week, but we are not certain.

If the Department generates the roster right now it will show members as unpaid, but many people have already paid. It is a computer error being address by the company.

The headquarters has been processing the transmittals and does show people as paid.

Access to the Member Portal

Each Detachment Commandant and Paymaster should have access to the Member Portal located at the https://www.mcleaguelibrary.org/. In February of last year, we sent out via the Area Vice Commandant the National Database Information Request form. To date, there are still 8 detachments that have not returned the form. The requested information allows National Headquarters to initially set up access for the Detachment Commandant and Paymaster to access the portal. Afterwards, it will be updated based on the information on your Report of Officers Installation. Please ensure you have your email and phone number on the Report of Officers Installation report. For instructions on how to access the Member Portal, National Headquarters has prepared a presentation (Database 101 - Detachment) that will provide you with instructions on how to access it. The presentation is available in the Member Library of the Marine Corps League Library. This section is available to members only and is password protected. I have in the past sent this password out. For security reasons, I will not post it here, however, please feel free to email me at spt1@mclwestchester.org and I will provide it. Here is a direct link to the presentation for those who already have the password:

Once you follow the instructions, and still have issues logging in, please feel free to contact me and we work to get your access working.
Member Portal FAQ

Q: Can I print my Detachment Roster from the Member Portal?

A: No. Besides the National Staff, only the Department Commandant, Paymaster and Adjutant have access to the new National Database and have the ability to print rosters.

Q: If the Detachment Commandant or Paymaster updates the address, email, and phone of the a member, does the Detachment Paymaster need to submit a membership transmittal with the codes COAO and COAN.

A: If a Detachment goes into the Member Portal and updates the address, email, and phone of the member, they do not need to duplicate that effort on a transmittal. It would be more accurate to have each detachment update the information in the Member Portal.

Q: Can individual members update their own information on the Member Portal?

A: Yes. Prerequisite: The members email address would need to be in the database for them to gain access. A Detachment Commandant and/or Paymaster can add/update the members email address.

Q: How can a member access their profile?

A: Please review the Database 101 - Detachment presentation referenced above. Once a members email has been added, please see page 4 of the presentation to obtain your password.
Passing of William ‘Brooks’ Corley Jr. LtCol/USMC (Ret).

Dear Membership,

We have just learned of the passing of William ‘Brooks’ Corley Jr. LtCol/USMC (Ret).
William “Brooks” Corley Jr., 77, passed away at his home in Harrisonburg, Va., on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021. Brooks was born on Jan. 31, 1943, in San Marcos, Texas to Brooks and Anna Katherine (Smith) Corley.

Brooks graduated from Lockhart High School in 1961 and attended Texas A&l (now Texas A&M, Kingsville) for two years before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in May 1964.

Brooks served the Marines in the enlisted ranks of Private thru Staff Sergeant before being commissioned as an officer, retiring after 29 years of service as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served two tours in Vietnam.

After retiring from the Marine Corps, Brooks served as the National Executive Director of the Marine Corps League for 10 years.

MCL - Message from the National Commandant

Marine Corps League - Department of New York E-Blast
In this e-blast:
  • A Message from National Commandant Dennis Tobin

To; Detachment Commandants, Paymasters, and membership
From; National Commandant, Dennis Tobin
Subject; current Issues.

Marines,

First, everyone needs to calm down and relax, I understand the frustration by members waiting to receive membership cards, checks cashed, transmittals returned. National Headquarters is working under some very trying conditions. Covid restrictions are still in effect especially in Virginia. So, I will try and explain some issues and hopefully ease some tensions and some unwanted emails and phone calls to Hdq’s.

1- Mid Winter conference— We cannot rush into a no/go decision without it costing us thousands of dollars, we have contractual issues. Currently we are working closely with the Hotel. We are waiting on the Governor to adjust or not adjust the current restrictions in Virginia. Currently it stands at no more than 10 persons at a meeting. The Board of Trustees has another Zoom meeting scheduled for 2 Feb. to discuss the conference again. IF there is any way to hold a face to face conference we will.

2—Transmittals and membership cards,

a) Currently Hdq’s staff is working on transmittals received as of this past Monday, dated, December, November, October, September, August, and even July, again please take note that these were just received at Headquarters on Monday
b) Membership Cards—Printing of the cards is a slow process. working the transmittals is not once we have them. During the months of Nov, Dec and Jan there were major slow downs in the postal system.

c) Gold Cards, 1/2 half been processed and there are currently 600 at the printer, they were on the December transmittals and went to the printer as a Jan. order.

d) Checks— under a new system, checks are deposited as soon as they are received, a form is then filled out with the check info and stapled to the transmittal identifying the check.

3—Where is the roster? right in front of you, its in the database for all Detachment and Department paymasters to look at and print out if needed. there is going to be a time ( very soon ) when the only roster coming from National will be the one for voting strength for the convention.

All Detachment and Department paymaster must learn to us the database portal for their needed info.

4— How to use the portal, there are directions posted on the members library on the National website. If you have a problem COO Bob Borka stands ready and willing to talk you through it.

Please read and understand that our staff is working hard for you under strict conditions.

Please, avoid nasty phone calls and emails to National Headquarters.
go through your chain of command for answers and help.

Last but not least remember we are still under COVID RESTRICTIONS, SLOW DOWNS AND EVEN SHUTDOWNS.

When calling Headquarters, Please be RESPECTFUL!!!!!!!!!!
