Marine Highlight

We honor and remember Maj Megan McClung, the first female Marine Corps officer to be killed in action in Operation Iraqi Freedom. McClung was serving as a media relations officer in Iraq in December 2006 when the convoy she was riding in was struck by a roadside bomb, killing her instantly.
Known for her motto, "Be brief. Be Bold. Be gone.", Maj McClung's legacy lives on. There have been several leadership awards and a scholarship established in her name, including the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation's Major Megan McClung Award, which highlights great reporting by an individual covering Marines abroad.

Women's History Month

Since proclaimed by Public Law 100-9 in 1987, March is observed as “National Women’s History Month.” During this month, we take the opportunity to honor all women and to acknowledge their ongoing contributions to the success and development of our Nation.
The 2021 observance theme is: “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced.” Learn more about the history of women in the Marine Corps here.

Marksmanship Competition

Robert Germanelo, Rifle Team Head Coach, Marine Corps Shooting Team, explains the dynamics of the team matches held during the U.S. Marine Corps Marksmanship Competition, Marine Corps Base Quantico. Marines from various units participated in a two day event, where the top shots were awarded. The competition consisted of various live fire drills under time limits and pistol marksmanship courses.

Marine Corps Trivia

The answer to our last trivia question can be found here! Here's this week's question - do you know the answer?
Q: Since 1862, nearly 300 Marines have been bestowed with the military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor. Only two Marines have been awarded this honor twice. Can you name both Marines?
