We
honor and remember Maj Megan McClung, the first female Marine Corps
officer to be killed in action in Operation Iraqi Freedom. McClung was
serving as a media relations officer in Iraq in December 2006 when the
convoy she was riding in was struck by a roadside bomb, killing her
instantly.
Known
for her motto, "Be brief. Be Bold. Be gone.", Maj McClung's legacy
lives on. There have been several leadership awards and a scholarship
established in her name, including the Marine Corps Heritage
Foundation's Major Megan McClung Award, which highlights great reporting by an individual covering Marines abroad.

Q:
Since 1862, nearly 300 Marines have been bestowed with the military's
highest decoration, the Medal of Honor. Only two Marines have been
awarded this honor twice. Can you name both Marines?
