Marine Corps League - Department of New York E-Blast

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt our daily lives. Since the outbreak we have received guidance from National Headquarters, and an Executive Order from New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, which has guided current decisions on League events, including suspending normal activities. National Headquarters has provided an emergency procedure for Detachments to conduct, at a minimum, their nominations and elections. The emergency procedure has been distributed to the Area Vice Commandant's for distribution to the Detachments. The document will also be posted to the Department web site at https://www.mclnewyork.net/.

While no determination has been made, in the event that the Department Convention in June is cancelled, the Board of Trustee's agreed that it will be held on 1st, 2nd, 3rd October 2020. The Department is closely monitoring the situation.

The Department Commandant and the Board of Trustee's have passed some measures to deal with this situation. Here are some topics for which has changed due to the COVID-19 outbreak and will be covered below:

Once again, the Department of New York encourages Detachments to nominate that outstanding Marine for Department Marine of the Year. A copy of the rules for Marine of the Year can be downloaded from the Department web site.

Changes Due to COVID-19:

The requirements have been modified, where only a minimum of two (2) submissions are required for consideration, instead of the originally stated three (3) submissions.

It must be emailed directly to the three (3) Committee members, and must be received no later than fifteen (15) days prior to the opening date of the Department of New York Convention in June, which is 27 May 2020.

Department Raffle

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many Detachment activities have been put on hold. Many members have not been able to participate in the annual Department Raffle. It has been decided that the drawing will be held at fall staff meeting, tentatively set for 2nd, 3rd, October 2020. By doing this, as this pandemic passes, we are hoping that everyone will have more time to participate in the Department Raffle.

Each Detachment is entitled to a 20% Commission per ticket ($2.00). Please take your share of the ticket sales before returning to our Raffle Chairman, Marine Tina Olsen. You can send the sold ticket stubs, and the Department share of the proceeds to:

Notice of Death

As always when a member passes, please submit your "Notice of Death" to the Department Chaplain, Angelo Procopio at Donychaplain@gmail.com. Reminder, you can email the "Notice of Death" to the Chaplain (preferred) then via the USPS.

The Department is requesting, if a member passes as a result of the COVID-19, please notate that on the "Notice of Death" and in your email. The Chaplain will be collecting the names, so we can properly recognize our members who pass as a result of this virus.
