The National Museum of the Marine Corps reopened to the public earlier this week after a temporary closure related to COVID-19. Scuttlebutt
Theater, Tun Tavern, the Medal of Honor Theater and the Museum Store

Student Art Competition
The
National Museum of the Marine Corps' 3rd Annual Marine Corps Student
Art Competition is officially open! The theme for this year's
competition is “Veterans.”
Student
artists are asked to create 2D art which visually shows what “Veterans”
means. Suggestions include, but are not limited to: Marines and their
families, Marines in U.S. history, being patriotic, brotherhood, and
combat support. Learn more here.
Vote for the Museum
The
National Museum of the Marine Corps has been nominated in several
categories for InsideNova's Best of Prince William 2021. Categories
include Local Attraction, Tourist Destination, Event Venue and more.
Supporters of the Museum are encouraged to vote for the Museum here and can vote once a day. Voting ends on 31 May and winners will be announced in late July/early August.
Marine Highlight
General Oliver P. Smithwas
a highly decorated combat veteran of World War II and Commanding
General of the First Marine Division in Korea. Through his steadfast
leadership in the field, he created the circumstances for future
viability and growth of the Marine Corps.
The Foundation honors his legacy each year with our General Oliver P. Smith Award which
is given for a distinguished example of local news reporting that
illuminates the U.S. Marine Corps relationship with local communities.
Marine Corps History
22 May 1912 - This day marks the beginning of Marine aviation. First Lieutenant Alfred A. Cunningham,
the first Marine officer to be assigned to "duty in connection with
aviation" by Major General Commandant William P. Biddle, reported for
aviation training at the Naval Aviation Camp at Annapolis, Maryland.
An
